Background- In the Early 1900's, Joseph Pilates developed an exercise program that utilizes unique equipment with adjustable springs and pulleys, while also creating resistance and strength within the body. Mat work classes teach the body how to use the lengthening of the muscle to create resistance, whereas the machines create progressive resistance helping produce muscle contractions that stimulate functional muscle action. There are over 600 exercises designed both for the machines and the mat making Pilates training continually challenging, interesting, and fun. Whether you are young or old, a rehabilitation patient or elite athlete, most people experience results equaling or often surpassing their fitness goals. Each program is designed specifically to meet the individual client's fitness level, needs and goals. Exercises can be modified to be easier for beginners, more challenging for advanced clients, or gentler for safe rehabilitation of an injury or specific health issue. The movements require concentration and precision as you work your body, thus greatly improving strength, stability, posture, balance, flexibility, focus, spine health, and coordination.
