Latest TBC Amateur Boxing Competition Team Results

On April 21st, Gene Juan came one more time short in an exciting bout against the veteran Sacha Allen from The American Institute of Amateur Boxing at The Farfan Training Center.  Despite of Allen's experience, Gene gave 110% to grab the victory.  However, Allen's footwork and hand speed seemed to be more effective than Gene's constant aggressive style.  Gene still needs to be more patient when setting up his shots. He gets too anxious when chasing guys around the ring.  That will come with experience, said coach Gusatvo. I thought I had it, said Gene frustrated. Allen won by split decision.

April 6th, 2007 - 4th and B - Pro Boxing Bouts
  • Lawson Baker - Win - TKO - 3rd Round

  • On January 27th, Gene Juan, 147lbs, made his amateur debut against an open division fighter, Freddy Gutierrez from El Centro.  It did not take to long in the first round for Gene to figure out his opponent.  Landing beautiful straights and left hooks, Gene forced a standing eight count in the first round.  In the second round, Gene rapidly kept the pressure on accumulating clean shots to the head and body knocking Freddy down.  Between the second and third round, as coach Gustavo was giving instructions to Gene, the opposite corner threw in the towel making the referee stop the contest.  Gene Juan started off with a great performance and style picking up his first victory.
  • On February 17th, The Boxing Club Competition Team, headed by coach Gustavo, traveled to as far as Pennsylvania for a great amateur show held by Lock Haven University (LHU).  Gene was lined up to fight one of the stars of the LHU Boxing team, Jason Sanchez (23-6).  Even though it was his second fight, Gene came to fight hard giving no respect to the slick south paw Sanchez.  It ended up to be the most electrifying fight of the night moving the crowd out their seats.  Both fighters showed high skill levels exchanging blows to the body and the head making it very even throughout the 3 rounds.  Despite of his great performance, Gene (1-1) came short in the end, loosing the bout to Sanchez on a 3-0 decision.
  • On February 24th, The Boxing Club Boxing Team got back in business for a great amateur show at The Community Youth Athletic Center in National City.  Gene Juan redeemed himself picking up his second win against the young fighter from David Love's Gym, Walter Garcia (6-2).  Both fighters showed great skills and effort; however Gene's great attacks to the body made Garcia slow down in the last round.  Gene showed superior conditioning and enormous body arsenal. He gave 110% said coach Gustavo.
  • On March 3rd, Gene took another match at The Undisputed Fitness and Training Center in San Diego.  This time the young prospect faced a much bigger opponent at 156lbs.  The aggressive Martin Ramirez had a better start than Gene, who had trouble picking his shots.  Moreover, Ramirez seemed to control the distance real well stopping Gene from coming in.  Only in the third round, Gene had Ramirez figured out, but it wasn't enough time to secure the victory.  Ramirez was a really tough and bigger opponent. It's ok though, because Gene has to learn how to fight guys that are physically stronger than him. said coach Gustavo. He will realize that he is at a competitive weight class where he will find strong guys. Coach Gustavo suggested that Gene (2-2) will be better at the 141lbs weight class.
